Why Tunkhannock residents should use Twitter

First of all, Twitter is completely and utterly free!  But what is Twitter for? Twitter is a great way to get quick updates (‘tweets’) on things going on like local news, events, live performances and other similar topics. There are basically two things you can do with Twitter; post ‘tweets’ and read ‘tweets’. Twitter works best when you ‘follow’ other Twitter pages.  Updates are simple, and really just like Facebook status updates. There are plenty of celebrities, magazines, television programs, etc. on Twitter too. One of the best features on Twitter however is their mobile update feature. All you have to do is register your mobile phone on your Twitter account and specify which Twitter pages you’d like to receive updates from and you’ll only receive text messages from those pages. At the end of this article will be step by step instructions on how to add your mobile phone to your Twitter account. So, let’s get you set up on Twitter. All you have to do is visit http://www.twitter.com and click Join. Twitter will guide you through the set up process. Once you’re logged into your Twitter account, visit http://www.twitter.com/tunkalive and click the “Follow” button to begin following TunkAlive on Twitter. Once you follow us you will see updates from TunkAlive when you log in. Here are some other local Twitter pages we recommend adding:

Also, once you visit a Twitter page that you are following, there will be two icons next to the green checkmark by “Following”. The first will be a mobile phone (only if you’ve set your phone up to your account) and the second will be the retweets button (which allows you to decide if you want to see retweets from that user). Just click the mobile phone icon, it will turn green and you will then receive mobile updates from that Twitter page (pretty handy for Times Leader breaking news and TunkAlive updates!). If you’d like to stop receiving them, click the mobile phone icon on their page again and you will stop receiving them. You can also deactivate your phone from your account at any time. So there it is. Twitter for Tunkhannock in a nutshell. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at tunkalive@gmail.com or on Facebook. We’d be happy to help.
